It’s all about fatherhood.

Hello.  We may have already met.  Well, what I mean is that you may have already read one of my blogs.  If you haven’t there’s no need to worry.  This a a great time to get started.  I’ve finally decided what I want to write about.  This blog started out as a class project a few years back and I thought I would keep it around as a creative outlet.  Over the years I’ve had a few sporadic posts usually prompted by my own musings but have never had any real direction.  I believe to a certain extent that is why I have floundered so much.

So, without further ado, I’ve decided to write about fatherhood.  It’s one of my greatest responsibilities and something that I dearly love.  I also know that there are tons of other men out there that want to be the best dad’s they can and a useful tip every now and then can go a long way.  Now, I’m not saying I’m the best dad ever but I had one of the greatest examples ever growing up as well as a great group of guys that I am constantly learning from.  Above all else I have my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as the ultimate example and I want to share my experiences and insights with you in hopes that you can also be the best dad you can be.

I suppose this was already destined to happen as I have always called this blog Fatherhood Remixed.  The remix is my special spin and flavor that I will add to the mix.  As I sat down to write this I had this picture in my head of opening my MacBook Pro, throwing a jazz record on and sipping tea while I composed the first of many posts.  It was going to be epic.

My planned workspace.

That’s when I realized that the extendable leaf on my table doesn’t actually stay up on it’s own.  No worries, I still had a little space next to my stereo and record player, undeterred I decided to set my laptop there.  Then I realized that my laptop didn’t really fit unless it slid right up against my stereo.  That’s when I learned that it started causing feedback from the metal body.  I slid it away about a half inch and made my record skip with every key stroke.  Just like fatherhood, the picture in my mind didn’t exactly work out in real life.  That’s when I went the real #dadlife route and let reality step in.

After pushing aside some of the clutter I am still listening to Billie Holiday, sipping on tea and typing away on my Mac.  I just had to make some minor adjustments.  And that’s going to be my first tip for you.   As a dad you want to provide a first class life for your kids.  You want everything to be perfect and if you actually had control it would be.  But this is real life and that’s not always going to be the case.  That’s when you have to think on your feet and make due with what you have.  And you know what?  Your kids will love it.  I’ve put so much pressure on myself over the years and I’m sure you have as well.  The kids don’t care about all that extra stuff.  They just want to know you love them and that they can count on you.  So be loving and be dependable and you’ll be superman in their eyes.
